Three energy suppliers receive Final Orders from Ofgem for unpaid Renewable Obligations Payments

Richard Simmonds • Oct 30, 2020

Nabuh Energy, Robin Hood Energy and Symbio Energy have been issued with final orders by the energy regulator Ofgem after failing to pay £15 million in Renewables Obligation (RO) and Feed in Tariff levelisation payments by the end of October deadline.

Failure to pay

Earlier this year the three energy suppliers were on a list of seven suppliers who had failed to make their RO payments by the deadline.

Since then Tonik Energy exited the market while the others save for the three given final orders today have either paid what they owed or gave assurances their commitments will be met.

Of the three, Robin Hood Energy also failed to pay its FIT levelisation payment.

Exiting the market?

The issuance of a final order is the last chance the three energy suppliers have to meet their obligations. Failure to do so could result in Ofgem revoking their licences and them exiting the energy market altogether.

“The Renewables Obligation and Feed-in Tariff schemes provide vital support to renewable electricity generators and play an important role in Great Britain’s journey to a greener, fairer, energy system. This enforcement action shows that we will take robust action if suppliers undermine such schemes by failing to meet their obligations, which could lead to them having their licences revoked,” said Ofgem’s director of enforcement and emerging issues Cathryn Scott.

Ofgem will publish the summary of suppliers RO payments, late payments and any other outstanding payments due after the late payment deadline of October 31.
