Centrica launches new 100% Digital and 100% renewable electricity brand British Gas Evolve

Richard Simmonds • Oct 08, 2020

As one energy supplier leaves the market another comes along to take its place. This time it’s Centrica’s new brand British Gas Evolve that promises to simplify energy and offer its customers 100% renewable energy.

What is it?

British Gas Evolve is being touted as a new service that is 100% online and that allows customers to manage their energy bills and accounts via a dedicated website. This tech only approach means that there are no call centres for customers to call but instead, it utilises an online webchat feature.

The brand is solely for residential customers and small business to make energy bills and energy management as easy as possible.

Digital-first

This digital-first approach is being adopted more and more by energy suppliers and looks set to become more commonplace over the coming years.

Energy supply companies have often struggled by using out of date software to manage their customer accounts, resulting in energy billing errors and other issues that can result in them landing in hot water with the energy regulator Ofgem.

The adoption of technology has become increasingly important for energy suppliers and those that fail to adapt and adopt typically fall behind the competition.

Suppliers that are able to provide ease of use to their customers will have a better chance at retaining those customers.

All serious energy suppliers now utilise websites to provide services to their customers. Being consumer-friendly means providing a wide array of services via them allowing them to free up employees to provide better customer service.

The 100% renewables angle

The increased focus on climate issues has provided energy suppliers with an opportunity to attract new customers concerned over the need for renewable energy.

British Gas Evolve is offering 100% renewable energy but more than that its promising to offer new designs and innovations to help its customers save energy and reduce their carbon emissions.

“Our ambition is to be not just the largest but also a growing energy supplier in the UK for residential customers and small businesses- providing an effortless reliable, low-cost, sustainable service that attracts and retains customers for the long term. We will be exploring the role British Gas Evolve can play in sustainability and how it can appeal to customers who might not always think of British Gas as the first place for these innovations. We will also partner with other businesses to deliver these opportunities and find new ways to engage with our customers,” said Peter Simon, managing director of New Energy Platforms at Centrica in a blog about the launch.
